It’s the end of an era for this iconic music store in Mississauga that is expected to close early next year.

Many Mississauga residents may remember Walter’s Music Centre, which was once situated in the retro-looking portion of the lower level of Square One before the shopping centre was revamped into what it is today.

Decades ago, you might even remember that Walters was situated by an ominous escalator that would lead you upwards to, well, nowhere really that important.

Walter’s Music Centre eventually moved to Heartland Town Centre (HTC), where it has remained as a hub for all music lovers to take piano lessons, purchase instruments and accessories and hold expensive guitars that many people only dream of owning.

While it was definitely a go-to spot for musicians, the music centre was also a place for those who simply just enjoyed and appreciated music. And, let’s not forget, it was the go-to spot to show off your ability to play “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” or the first nine notes of Beethoven’s “Für Elise”.

An employee at Walter’s Music Centre told insauga.com that the store is expected to close at the beginning of February.

In a Reddit thread, several residents expressed their sadness over the iconic store’s closure.

“My young adolescent ages were spent largely mall ratting and playing in the store. They were always so kind and they helped me build my inspiration towards music,” wrote one user.

“I took piano lessons here for five to six years. They taught me everything I know about playing music. I can still read music to this day even though I don’t play anymore,” wrote another user.

As a result of the closure, the same employee told insauga.com that many items are currently on sale in the store and will continue to be, while supplies last.
