UPDATE (4:35 p.m.): In a statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Metrolinx said that they are slowly resuming services in the rail corridors.
Their top priority is to get people home from Union Station, with outbound trains operating from Union Station about every 30 minutes.
“For customers travelling into Union Station tonight, service will be less frequent but should be between 30-60 minutes. As we work with our rail partner on this issue and restore full service, there will be continued cancellations and potential delays this evening,” the statement read.
“Trains are expected to be very busy, so please continue to explore alternative ways to get to your destination this evening – or consider travelling later this evening when trains and buses are expected to be less busy,” Metrolinx added.
(4:30 p.m.): In a statement posted on social media, GO Transit said CN’s network-wide system failure continues to affect all of its rail corridors, but it intends to run limited service from Union Station. GO Transit says commuters should expect ongoing delays and cancellations as it works to recover rail service.
Union Station departures can be found here.
In a post on social media, CN said that VIA trains in and out of Union are also impacted, as is CN’s customer service portal.
CN trains, EXO trains (Montreal) and Amtrack trains are currently operational. CN says the cause of the outage is under investigation, but it is not believed to be due to a cybersecurity issue at this time.
A system failure halted all GO trains across Ontario today.
