An Air Canada plane en route from Vancouver to Mississauga’s Pearson Airport had to abruptly turn around within an hour of takeoff due to a heater issue in the flight deck.
The AC104, a daily cross-country flight, encountered an “uncomfortably cool” cockpit just 45 minutes into its journey, prompting an immediate return to Vancouver.
Air Canada emphasizes that the temperature control system serves a dual purpose—maintaining cabin comfort and regulating vital cabin pressurization, especially at high altitudes.
The system reportedly refreshes cabin air every three to five minutes, maintaining optimal pressure and quality.
According to Air Canada there are preventative measures in effect to avoid over- or under-pressurization with most jets maintaining cabin pressure at around 8,000 feet during cruising altitudes. This balance ensures a passenger’s comfort during their flight.
Air Canada reports that the heater has since been fixed, and the aircraft is back in service.
