An Air Canada flight originally departing from Mississauga’s Pearson Airport to Calgary was diverted to another province, following an alleged assault by a teen on another passenger.
On Wednesday (Jan. 3) RCMP at the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport received a report shortly before 12:30 p.m., of a flight diversion to Winnipeg due to an ‘unruly passenger’ on board who had assaulted another passenger.
According to RCMP, the investigation into Air Canada’s flight #137 from Toronto to Calgary revealed that a 16-year-old boy from Grande Prairie, Alta., assaulted a man who was identified as a family member.
Quick intervention by airline employees and fellow passengers, successfully restrained the teen after the incident.
The teen who’s identity has not been made public, was subsequently arrested and taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
The victim received on-site treatment for minor physical injuries, police say.
Fortunately, no other passengers required medical assistance.
