A new rebate coming to Ontario residents in November

The average household in Ontario will see a monthly savings of $26 on their electricity bill starting in November.
This follows an announcement by Queen’s Park that the Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) program will rise from 11.7 per cent to 19.3 per cent.
Every October, the government adjusts the OER to protect electricity customers from the normal year-to-year variability in electricity costs.
It will translate to an average yearly savings of $312 and is part of a larger government plan to assist low-income families with additional financial support for electricity costs.
The additional support will see an increase in the eligibility thresholds for the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP).
For example, a four-person household, which is eligible for an additional $40 each month in financial support, will see the maximum income eligibility threshold increase from $48,000 to $65,000 per year after tax – an increase of $17,000.
The OESP increase will take hold next March.
“By increasing our investment in the Ontario Electricity Support Program, we are also providing additional targeted support to those who need it most,” said Todd Smith, Ontario’s Minister of Energy.
