Changes are coming early in the new year to nine MiWay bus routes in order to better serve the system’s riders, transit officials in Mississauga say.
The schedule adjustments to the various routes are intended to “improve service reliability as traffic and ridership patterns continue to evolve throughout the city,” officials at MiWay, Mississauga’s public transit provider, said in their latest update.
Effective Jan. 6, schedule adjustments will be made on the following bus routes:
- 1 Dundas (weekday, Saturday and Sunday)
- 17 Hurontario (weekday)
- 18 Derry (weekday)
- 20 Rathburn (weekday)
- 39 Britannia (weekday, Saturday and Sunday)
- 42 Derry (weekday, Saturday and Sunday)
- 71 Sheridan (weekday)
- 73 Kamato (weekday)
- 101 Dundas Express (weekday and Saturday)
Transit officials say additional schedule adjustments can be expected down the road, as needed, “to ensure services remain responsive to customer needs.”
MiWay’s next planned service changes are scheduled for Feb. 24.

Prior to the new year, several other changes to MiWay service have already taken hold.
A new bus route that’ll take riders to and from Dixie Outlet Mall in the city’s south end and free MiWay rides on New Year’s Eve are among a series of service changes planned over the next two-plus weeks by Mississauga’s transit provider.
MiWay officials said the new Route 31 Ogden will replace the temporary Ogden Shuttle that had been in operation since September.
“This new route will service Dixie Outlet Mall along Dixie Road, Lakeshore Road and Ogden Avenue via Long Branch GO Station,” MiWay officials said, noting the new route will operate seven days a week.
As a result, Ogden Avenue service that used to be offered on Route 5 Dixie has now been permanently removed from that route. Earlier this year, an intersection reconfiguration in the area prompted the temporary removal — at that time — of service along Ogden Avenue.
MiWay also notes all of its buses will run on a holiday schedule from Dec. 23 until Jan. 5 “to ensure that service is aligned with customer demand.”
Included among those changes is the temporary shelving of the 300-series bus routes that serve the city’s high school students. They’ll stop running Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.

And on New Year’s Eve, free bus service will be available on all routes from 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
