  • Do not leave running vehicles unattended.
  • Be aware of suspicious vehicles in your neighborhood and report to police.

As for items being stolen from vehicles, police say these thefts tend to occur in large remote parking lots, as well as parking lots at shopping malls, GO train stations, movie theatres, airports. Residential driveways and unlocked garages are also a prime target.

To keep their belongings safe, residents are advised to avoid leaving a running vehicle unattended, keep car doors locked and windows rolled up, lock their garage door, keep valuables out of sight, and consider using anti-theft devices (steering wheel lock, an automatic engine shut-off, and/or a tracking device).
