Labour Day travellers at Pearson in Mississauga 2024.

Some 667,000 travellers are expected to pass through Pearson Airport in Mississauga over the Labour Day long weekend, making it one of the busiest travel times of the year.

Officials at Pearson, Canada’s biggest and busiest airport, said in a post to social media on Friday morning they’re expecting 4,150 arrivals and departures over the next three days.

The 667,000 travellers will be heading to and arriving from around 170 destinations, officials added.

Pearson officials have a few suggestions for travellers to make their experience less stressful:

  • reserve your spot in line with YYZ Express. This helps travellers move more quickly through security screening
  • download the ArriveCan app to submit your declaration and use the express lane to pass more quickly through customs
  • arrange pickup at Viscount Station’s Kiss and Fly to help avoid traffic congestion. This service is offered free of charge

YYZ Express, a free virtual booking system that allows departing passengers on select flights to reserve their security screening spot in advance, was launched at Pearson in late 2022.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which runs Pearson, said earlier the initiative streamlines passenger flow and eases wait times for travellers leaving on both domestic and international flights.

Using YYZ Express, named for Pearson’s international airport code (YYZ), travellers can make an online reservation up to 72 hours before their flight by adding their flight information and number of people in their party (up to 10).
