If you’re in the mood for spicy comfort dishes, artisan cocktails, sushi or sweet treats, you might want to check out these six new restaurant openings in Mississauga, Oakville and Oshawa.


Helvaci Ali

A Turkish dessert shop called Helvaci Ali opened its first Canadian location in Mississauga at 3535 Odyssey Dr., Unit 89 in Ridgeway Plaza.

Known for its semolina helva, a classic Turkish sweet, the shop offers a variety of flavours including lotus biscoff, chocolate, walnut and pistachio. The dessert is often served with Turkish ice cream. In addition to helva, customers can enjoy Turkish tea and coffee.

With over 200 branches worldwide, Helvaci Ali brings its 100-year tradition of desserts to the local community.


Al Chick

New mississauga restaurant grand opening

Al Chick, located at Erindale Station Road and Dundas Street West, just west of Mavis Road, is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The first 50 customers will receive a free meal, and most menu items will be 50 percent off for the rest of the day, excluding platters.

The restaurant offers a range of dishes, including burgers, sandwiches, shawarma, and chicken on rice. Their specials include unique wings and a new chicken bowl featuring rice, fries, poutine, gravy, cheese curds and their signature Al Chick sauce.

The restaurant is in the same location as the former John Anderson burger joint, which closed earlier this year.


H&D Sushi 

New sushi restaurant opens in Mississauga

H&D Sushi is a new addition to Mississauga’s sushi and Japanese food scene, located at 60 Dundas St. E., in Cooksville.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of sushi and sashimi, including options like tuna, salmon, crab, avocado rolls, California rolls, and beef and chicken teriyaki rolls. A standout on the menu is their signature “H&D Roll,” which features shrimp tempura, crab meat, avocado, cucumber, mayo, tobiko, tempura bits, grilled salmon and spicy sauce.

In addition to sushi, the menu includes tempura, fried rice and noodles, poke bowls, salads, soups and bento boxes.


COBS Bread Bakery

Located at 215 Lakeshore Rd.W., this is the sixth COBS franchise in Mississauga, with additional locations in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Toronto.

Known for its fresh bread and a variety of baked goods, COBS offers popular loaves like cinnamon, cheese and ham, cranberry sourdough, sunflower and flax, and several types of rye.

The bakery also features scones, Danish pastries, croissants, muffins, tarts, and specialty hamburger and hotdog buns.


Bo.Vine Burger & Bar 

New premium burger bar location has recently opened in Oakville

Bo.Vine Burger & Bar in Oakville offers an upscale dining experience with a focus on avoiding the high costs often associated with fine dining. Located at 2051 Winston Park Dr., the restaurant aims to provide a sophisticated yet laid-back atmosphere, according to its website.

The menu includes smash burgers, fries, cod tacos, braised beef croquettes, slow-roasted lamb dip, and much more. Vegetarians can also grab a bite to eat here, with a wide selection of salads, veggie burgers, gyozas, onion rings, and mushroom bolognese.


Rajdhani Sweets

Rajdhani Sweets just opened and is located at 1295 Ritson Rd. N., in Oshawa near the bustling plaza next to the Metro grocery store. The restaurant offers a variety of Indian dishes, from curries and sweet desserts to popular street food snacks.

Snack options include samosa chana (crispy pastry filled with spiced chickpeas), chat papri (crispy wafers topped with yogurt, chutney, and spices), and pani puri (hollow shells filled with tangy tamarind water). For bread lovers, the menu features a range of naan, including plain, garlic, onion, and aloo, as well as paratha, a flaky and buttery flatbread.

South Indian dishes like idli sambar (steamed rice cakes with lentil soup) and masala dosa (a crispy crepe filled with spiced potatoes) are also available. Main course options include biryani (fragrant rice with mixed vegetables), chana bhatura (fluffy fried bread with spicy chickpeas), and makki roti saag (cornmeal bread with mustard greens).

Dessert lovers can choose from gulab jamun (deep-fried milk dumplings in sugar syrup), ras malai (cheese patties in sweetened milk), and kulfi faluda (creamy frozen dessert with vermicelli and rose syrup). Traditional Indian sweets, sold by the pound and packaged in signature boxes, are also available near the entrance.
