Some 500,000 travellers on board 4,400 flights are expected to make their way through Pearson Airport in Mississauga over the Thanksgiving long weekend, airport officials say.
In what’s historically one of the busiest travel periods of the year at Canada’s biggest airport, things get started on Friday when 489 departures and 493 arrivals are scheduled, Pearson officials said in a post to social media.
The rest of the expected numbers — both travellers and flights — will come Saturday through end of Monday, Thanksgiving Day.
Pearson Airport duty manager Jake Keating said in a post to X (formerly Twitter) there are several things travellers can do to make things easier on them over the holiday weekend. He provided “some tips and tricks” in a video also posted to social media (see below) that should help people have as stress-free an airport experience as possible.
More numbers from Friday, according to Pearson, show that around 130,000 travellers are expected to make their way through the terminals as they board 192 flights to Canadian cities, 191 to the U.S. and 106 to international destinations.
“During busy travel days, we recommend checking out our website to help make your travel easier,” officials said.
Meanwhile, several airports in Florida that had shut down all operations due to the threat of Hurricane Milton the past few days are expected to be open and resuming normal operations on Friday, Pearson officials added.
As always, airport officials tell travellers it’s a good idea to call their airline ahead of time to ensure their flight isn’t delayed.
