5 things to do in Mississauga this weekend: Dec 9 to 11, 2022

Ah, the weekend.

Something everyone looks forward to, especially during the holiday season.

From festive events to winter activities, those looking for something to do in Mississauga have plenty of options.

So, without further ado, here are five things you can do this weekend (Dec. 9 to 11, 2022) in Mississauga.

 

Watch a World Cup game at Celebration Square

While many of us aren’t used to celebrating the World Cup this time of year, the screenings at Celebration Square in Mississauga are still something the community can look forward to.

On Friday (Dec. 9), the Croatia vs. Brazil game will be screened at 10:00 a.m. and the Netherlands vs. Argentina game will be screened at 2:00 p.m.

On Saturday (Dec. 10), the Morocco vs. Portugal game will be screened at 10:00 a.m. and the England vs. France game will be screened at 2:00 p.m.

Check out a new pop-up at the Food District in Square One

The Food District in Square One is a place many people like to flock to, due to the various food options that often change up.

The newest pop-up called Pretty Little Layers, specializes in French entremets which are desserts made up of different layers and textures.

Pretty Little Layers will offer mini entremets and French treats at the Food District beginning this Sunday (Dec. 11) until Dec. 18.

Enjoy the twinkly lights at Illumi

A light, sound and multimedia festival called Illumi has hit Mississauga just in time for the holidays.

The event is located at 7174 Derrycrest Dr. and features more than 20 million lights that have been separated into 14 universes.

Each universe features music and its own theme, making it a fun and immersive experience for a date, family outing or even solo night out.

The second annual Mississauga Festival of Trees has returned to the city, just in time to get the community into the holiday spirit.

The event, which celebrates the winter season, art and food, will take place until Dec. 11 at the Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB), located at 1352 Lakeshore Rd. East.

Attendees will get to experience a winter wonderland, enjoy installations, participate in workshops and purchase items at the markets. Along with live entertainment, the festival features seasonal light displays, contemporary tree and woodpile art installations, artisan and culinary markets and more.

Go skating

Get into the holiday spirit at Celebration Square, where residents can skate on the City’s largest outdoor ice rink and enjoy twinkly lights and glowing installations.

The ice rink is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
