Philipp’n Italian

The newly opened 70 King Market in Oshawa, now offers several new culinary experiences, including the unique Philipp’n Italian, a fusion of Filipino and Italian cuisines.

The restaurant, located at 70 King St E., results from a decade-long collaboration between Chefs Faye and Peter. They combined their expertise from their family-run restaurants: The Hungry Moon in Scarborough and The Flavoured Journey in Whitby.

Philipp’n Italian features a distinctive menu blending iconic dishes from both cultures. Highlights include Calderetta gnocchi (Italian gnocchi in Filipino brisket stew), Chicken fusilli (Filipino kare-kare chicken with Italian fusilli pasta), Pork belly risotto (sweet pork in adobo broth), Milkfish risotto, and Vota Vota (a Sicilian-style calzone).

70 King Market is located in the historic Genosha Hotel building, which has stood since 1929. The hotel was once Oshawa’s luxury accommodation, hosting notable figures and serving as a prime concert venue.

Other restaurants that have set up shop include:

  • Bao Mamma (Filipino and Asian-inspired dishes)
  • Sushi Again (ala carte sushi)
  • Gabe & Pancha’s (for the sweet tooth)
  • Tastonia Kitchen (plant-based bowls, salads and smoothies)
