5 Best zoos offering live video footage of animals

The weather is warming up, the sun is starting to come out, but unfortunately, we can’t truly take advantage of the improving weather due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, if you find yourself missing nature there’s good news: many zoos and aquariums that had to close to prevent the spread of the virus are offering video feeds of their animals.

These are the 5 best zoos offering live animal streams.


5: Vancouver Aquarium

The Vancouver Aquarium is offering four live feeds viewers can enjoy two of the otters–one regular camera and one underwater camera–a live feed of the penguins, and a live camera feed of the jellyfish.

4: Calgary Zoo  

The Calgary Zoo is offering daily videos called “Your Daily Dose,” which feature different zoo animals as well as the staff who work at the zoo.

There are also three live camera feeds of the giant panda enclosure as well that people can watch from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

3: Assiniboine Park Zoo

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1 p.m. CST, the Assiniboine Park Zoo is hosting a live creature feature through Facebook.

Staff will be teaching viewers about an animal at the zoo, as well as teaching viewers about animal enrichment, veterinary care, adaptations, and more. There will also be opportunities for viewers to ask questions and have them answered by staff live.

2: Ripley’s Aquarium

Ripley’s is offering several different forms of content viewers can enjoy every day–from Q&A sessions with marine biologists, to information sessions about the animals that live at the aquarium, to live feedings (you won’t want to miss the shark feedings!).

1: Toronto Zoo

The Toronto Zoo is offering plenty of ways to learn about the many zoo animals.

Every day at 1 p.m., the Zoo will be going live on Facebook to teach viewers about one of their animals. The Zoo is also offering virtual learning classes Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. The Zoo is also providing worksheets, home activities, and lesson plans parents can give their kids to teach them about animals.

The Zoo has also launched a podcast entitled “hidden zoo” that teaches listeners about the importance of conservation and how it protects endangered species.
