Residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon could see a 5.5 per cent hike to their property taxes as part of Peel Region’s 2025 budget.
The proposed $6.2 billion budget includes $3.9 billion for operating expenditures and $2.3 billion for capital expenditures.
The increase means the average residential property tax bill would jump by $321, while the average commercial property tax bill would increase by $564, the region says.
Of the 5.5 per cent hike, 1.3 per cent is for regionally controlled services and 4.1 per cent is for the Peel Regional Police.
The proposed budget also includes a 5.9 per cent increase to utility bills, marking an additional average impact of $62 for residential customers and $118 for commercial over the course of a year.
Peel Region council is beginning deliberations on the proposed budget Thursday.
