A new rental apartment building is officially starting construction in Mississauga.

Work has started on the purpose-built rental community featuring three residential towers at 725 Village Green Blvd., near Cawthra Road and Atwater Avenue.

Officials gathered at the site on Thursday for the ground-breaking ceremony from developer Morguard Corporation.

“Always enjoy the celebration of a new purpose-built rental building,” Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish said on social media. “Morguard, long time City partner, is building 431 gorgeous units at 725 Village Green Blvd. Happy to join Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko, Rai and Angela Sahi and other key players, to launch this great project!”

The property, just south of the Mississauga Seniors Centre, has been vacant for many years.

Back in 2017, an application was submitted for 171 stacked townhouses on the property, according to a City of Mississauga report.

Morguard revised the plan after discussions with the mayor, area councillor and staff.

The three apartment buildings will be between seven and nine storeys, according to the 2022 report.
