407 ETR warns of scam targeting drivers in southern Ontario

A scam targeting drivers on Highway 407 appears to be circulating again in southern Ontario.
The toll highway 407 ETR issued a warning this week for people to be on the lookout for suspicious text messages.
The messages look like they are from 407 ETR but contain a malicious link, 407 ETR said in a press release.
“Scammers are sending messages that ask for a payment, and if you click on the link this could leave you vulnerable to data theft,” the release states.
A similar scam warning was sent out earlier this year.
The toll highway does send payment reminders by text message but these messages never contain a direct link to pay.
“We’ll never ask for personal information such as passwords, PINs or credit cards in any of our communications to you,” the release states.
Never click on a link that you suspect could be a scam, 407 ETR suggests.
People unsure if a message is real should visit 407etr.com/contactus to verify, or email [email protected] and include an image of the text, then delete it.
