Police say $400,000 worth of fentanyl was seized after a traffic stop in northwestern Ontario, leading to two Brampton men being charged.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release that, as a result of an investigation, officers conducted a traffic stop in Kenora on Monday.

The stop “led to the seizure of a large quantity of fentanyl with a street value of approximately $400,000,” police said.

“The fentanyl seized is believed to have been destined for Kenora and the surrounding communities,” police added.

OPP Insp. Jeffrey P. Duggan said the seizure “significantly disrupts” the supply of drugs in Kenora and surrounding areas.

Brampton residents Jashanpreet Singh, 20, and Karanpreet Singh, 23, were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

While not specifically linking it to this case, the OPP release said short-term housing rentals can be used for drug trafficking and asked that any landlords who suspect drug trafficking is happening at their property to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
