More than 400 delegates from across North America are expected at a conference in Mississauga this week.

The Safety of our Cities Conference kicks off Monday at the Hilton Hotel.

The three-day conference is looking at new and more effective ways to fight crime and keep communities and cities safer.

Law enforcement officials and other stakeholders from across Canada and the U.S. will discuss “progressive, innovative and inclusive approaches to restoring balance and safety to communities across North America,” organizers said.

Delegates will look at the root causes of the safety challenges faced by communities. Social service, public health, government and private sectors officials are expected to join law enforcement members.

The conference begins with remarks from Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish; Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown; Sumeeta Kohli, Peel Police Service Board; and Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
