4 people dead after fire in northern Ontario

Four people are dead after a fire in northern Ontario on Thursday.

Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Paget Street South in downtown New Liskeard at around 5:30 p.m.

That’s around 150 kilometres northeast of Sudbury.

Four people were found dead inside of the home, police said.

There is no word on what may have caused the blaze, or if it is being treated as suspicious.

An investigation is ongoing.

“While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, police believe there is no risk to the public at this time,” OPP said.

“Members of the community can expect to see an increased presence of OPP personnel and vehicles in the area as the investigation continues.”
