Three drivers were all caught doing more than 2½ times the speed limit along the same Mississauga roadway where a pedestrian was recently struck and killed, police say.
In a tweet hash-tagged #SlowDown, Peel Regional Police said the heavy-footed drivers were all caught in a 50 km/h zone on Derry Road East near Cattrick Drive. Two were travelling at 125 km/h and 126, and another was booting it 137 km/h. The stops came within a two-day span.
“(This) is also the location of a recent motor vehicle collision that resulted in a pedestrian fatality,” Peel Regional Police noted.

Exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h or more, where the speed limit is set at less than 80, triggers stunt driving charges in Ontario. Drivers also face a 30-day roadside driver’s licence suspension, as well as a 14-day vehicle impoundment, if pulled over by police for stunt driving.
As of April 1, offenders charged with stunt driving also have to complete a driver improvement course within 60 days.
