A dog owner faces charges after three of their pets bit a number of people while running loose in a public area in a small southwestern Ontario town on Wednesday.

Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a call just after 4:30 p.m. of three dogs running at large in the town of Harriston, about 75 kilometres northwest of Kitchener.

The roaming dogs resulted in “members of the public being bit,” Wellington County OPP said in a news release on Friday.

Police said Wellington North Animal Control officers also responded to the late afternoon call.

A 41-year-old resident of Harriston faces charges under the Dog Owner’s Liability Act. The person is charged with owner of dog — fail to prevent dog from biting, attacking a person or domestic animal.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has also been notified as a result of this incident, police said.

OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
