3 dead as transit bus collides head-on with truck in Welland, Ontario

In a devastating incident on Highway 58 in Welland, three individuals have lost their lives following a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a transit bus.
The collision occurred around 10 p.m. on the evening of Oct 12, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
The pickup truck collided head-on with the transit bus, causing the truck to roll over and burst into flames.
Tragically, the driver of the pickup and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for urgent medical care.
Two passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the accident. One was transported to the hospital for evaluation, while the other was assessed at the scene and subsequently released.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As a result of the accident, Highway 58 has been closed between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East for an estimated eight hours.
Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes to minimize traffic disruption. Local residents are urged to be cautious and follow any detour signs posted in the vicinity.
The OPP has stated that it will release further details as the investigation progresses. It is appealing to anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
