It’s not officially summer yet but beach testing has begun in Mississauga.

With temperatures soaring, predicted to feel above 40 C this week, people will be looking for ways to cool off.

Mississauga residents don’t have to go far for a swim in Lake Ontario — there are three local beaches and it looks like all have the green light for safe swimming.

The Region of Peel started beach testing on June 8 and has just published results for three public swim spots in Mississauga.

Jack Darling Memorial Park, 1180 Lakeshore Rd. W.
A.E. Crookes Park, 140 Lakefront Promenade
Richard’s Memorial Park, 804 Lakeshore Rd. W.

These spots are all open for swimming as of June 13, according to the Region of Peel.

The Region of Peel also tests Professor’s Lake Beach in Brampton but that beach is not open until June 27.

Signs will be posted at public beaches if they are unsafe for swimming. High levels of bacteria in beach water can make swimmers sick with diarrhea, skin rashes, ear pain, cough or congestion, and/or ear pain.

Beaches can reach high levels of bacteria through heavy rainfall, large numbers of water birds, high winds or wave activity, or a large number of swimmers.

The beaches are tested weekly from June until the first week of September.
