Honda and Acura vehicles are being recalled in Canada due to a defect that could increase the risk of a crash.

Honda Canada issued the recall voluntarily for approximately 239,000, 2022-2025 Acura and Honda vehicles in Canada.

Owners can bring impacted vehicles in for a free-of-charge repair of a defective part in the steering gearbox, the notice from Honda Canada said.

The defect could “result in increased risk of a crash or injury” as the issue could make it more difficult to steer the vehicle, the notice said.

An improperly produced steering gearbox worm wheel can swell when exposed to environmental heat and moisture, reducing the grease film thickness between the worm wheel and worm gear, according to the notice.

In addition, the worm gear spring reload was set improperly high, increasing the sliding force between the components. Excessive friction between these components can cause “sticky” steering.

The free repair of the steering gearboxes will be completed at authorized Honda and Acura dealerships. The dealer will add grease and replace the worm gear spring with an improved part.

Honda Canada will send notices to registered owners of all affected models in November.

Owners of affected vehicles should take their cars to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as possible. Visit www.Honda.ca/recalls or www.Acura.ca/recalls or call 1-888-946-6329 to see if your vehicle is included in the recall.
