Environment Canada has issued multiple weather alerts for Toronto and parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) as challenging weather conditions are expected.
Environment Canada has issued two important weather alerts: a Rainfall Warning and a Fog Warning.
Rainfall Warning
Significant rainfall is forecast across Toronto and the GTA on Sunday, with amounts ranging between 20 to 44 millimetres in areas such as Mississauga, Brampton, Guelph, Oakville, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Vaughan, Niagara Falls, Oshawa, Markham, Richmond Hill, and beyond.
Rain is expected to begin Sunday morning, with heavy downpours at times. Conditions will improve later in the evening as the rain transitions to isolated showers. Roads are expected to be wet and slippery, posing potential hazards for drivers.
Environment Canada is urging caution near rivers, creeks, and culverts, as washouts are possible. Parents and pet owners should ensure children and pets remain well away from water bodies and riverbanks.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Outlook and Watershed Conditions Statement, which will remain in effect until 10:00 p.m. Monday.
The combination of heavy rain, above-freezing temperatures, frozen ground, and melting snow and ice could result in elevated water levels and dangerous conditions near rivers, streams, and shorelines. Residents are advised to avoid all shorelines and water bodies in the GTA until conditions stabilize.
Fog Advisory
A Fog Advisory is in effect for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Durham Region, Halton Hills and Milton.
Patchy dense fog has developed and is expected to persist into the morning hours, potentially reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution when visibility is impaired by turning on their lights, reducing speed, and maintaining a safe following distance.
With heavy rainfall, potential flooding, and dense fog, residents across the GTA are urged to stay vigilant and prioritize safety while navigating these challenging conditions. Updates will be issued as necessary.
