Arrest in car shooting at QEW in Mississauga.

Two people have been arrested and police remain on the hunt for others in connection with a bizarre Mississauga shooting last month that critically injured a 33-year-old woman while she was driving in the early morning hours near the QEW.

Peel Regional Police said late Tuesday afternoon they’ve arrested and charged an 18-year-old Toronto man and a youth in relation to the Sept. 10 shooting that took place minutes before 4 a.m. in an upscale neighbourhood just north of the QEW and Mississauga Road.

Police said earlier the woman, reportedly from Mississauga, was shot somewhere north of the busy highway interchange, possibly in the well-to-do area of Doulton Drive and Mississauga Road just a short distance from the QEW.

The victim was reportedly driving a black Lamborghini SUV with two other women riding as passengers when the vehicle pulled over to summon help from construction crews at Mississauga Road and the QEW just before 4 a.m.

The woman was rushed to hospital with what was believed to be a gunshot wound to her head. Police did not confirm the nature of the woman’s injuries, saying only that she sustained gunshot wounds.

The woman is still recovering from her injuries, police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened prior to the vehicle and the women making their way to the QEW.

Reports indicate the women were travelling in the luxury SUV when they were attacked by three men, one of the culprits shooting at the women and critically injuring the driver.

Neither of the other two women were injured, police said earlier. One of the passengers called 911 just moments after the shooting as the SUV came to a stop at the QEW.

Police said earlier the culprits fled in a vehicle immediately after the shooting. They don’t have a description of the getaway car.

Police said the two arrests were made last Wednesday. Investigators recovered a firearm in addition to two loaded magazines at the time.

Basherullah Abdulrashid, 18, of Toronto, is charged with:

  • accessory after the fact
  • unauthorized possession of firearm
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • careless storage of a firearm

He was held pending a bail hearing in Brampton court.

A youth has been charged with:

  • attempt murder
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • aggravated assault (two counts)
  • possession of firearms contrary to order (two counts)

The youth, whose age and gender were not released by police, was also held for a bail hearing. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, they cannot be identified.

Investigators said Tuesday they believe additional suspects are involved and they anticipate laying further charges.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 1133, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
