The RCMP has made an arrest after 45 kilograms worth of marijuana was found concealed in the luggage of a passenger at Pearson Airport who was headed to Germany.

Police say a 21-year-old was charged after the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) found the substance during a routine check of baggage on Oct. 25.

The street value of the drugs is $180,000.

The CBSA seized the cannabis and arrested the traveller and the RCMP charged Renee Ashanta Henry with possession for the purpose of export contrary to section 11(2) of the Cannabis Act.

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5.

“Although cannabis is decriminalized in Canada, it is still illegal to carry any amount of cannabis on international flights, or amounts exceeding personal use on domestic flights. This latest arrest again highlights the fact that if a passenger chooses to smuggle cannabis, they will be arrested and charged with serious criminal drug smuggling charges,” said Inspector John McMath Officer in Charge, RCMP Toronto Airport Detachment.

The arrest was the second announced by the RCMP in two days concerning those trying to export cannabis.

On Oct. 25 an arrest was made discovering $250,000 worth of marijuana hidden in luggage that was bound for England.
