As many as 160,000 people are expected to move through Pearson Airport in Mississauga each day over the next few months in what will be the busiest travel time of the year at Canada’s biggest airport.
And some 1,100 daily flights are expected to take off from and arrive at Pearson during that same period, airport officials said in a post to social media Thursday morning.
Pearson officials are anticipating more summer travellers this year than they saw during summer 2023 at the airport.
“We’re ready to welcome millions of passengers over the summer months. On peak days, more than 160,000 people will pass through the airport, which is an eight per cent increase from 2023,” airport officials said in a post to X (formerly Twitter).
“The peak travel months are July and August, but higher-than-normal passenger volumes already started in June and will continue into September. On our busiest days, we’re planning for more than 1,100 flights to either depart or arrive at Pearson.”
The daily flight number is expected to be 1,014 today — 505 scheduled departures, 509 arrivals — as the volume is already ramping up, according to Pearson officials.
Adding to the busy summer travel season is Pearson’s standing as “the most connected airport in North America in terms of international destinations,” they added in a separate social media post on Thursday morning.
“And we continue to add new routes to meet our passengers’ expectations. In 2023, we flew 45 million passengers to 195 destinations across Canada and the globe.”
Airport officials noted that using Pearson’s “digital tools” can help travellers navigate their way more quickly and efficiently during the busy summer season.
