A 153-year-old restaurant from China has opened a new location in Mississauga.
Officials gathered for the QJD Peking Duck Restaurant grand opening in the Chinese Mall at 888 Dundas St. E. on Sunday.
QJD or Quanjude is a 153-year-old Chinese restaurant chain known for its Chinese Peking duck.
“Founded in 1864, the restaurant has since passed down the culinary tradition of a roasted duck that kept the whole country enthralled,” QJD says on its website.
The restaurant also has a location in Ottawa.
In June 2008, the Quanjude roasted duck techniques were included in the Chinese National Intangible Heritage, the restaurant says.
The roast duck was originally reserved for imperial families. Quanjude stews the duck first and roasts until the skin is plumped with with purplish-red colour.
The sliced duck has a thin, crispy golden skin and juicy meat. It is served with steamed pancakes, soybean dipping sauce, cucumber and leek strips.
The QJD Peking Duck Restaurant menu includes other options such as crispy fish, lamb, kung pao chicken, seafood and spicy eggplant.
For dessert, adorable duckling-shaped pastries are stuffed with a sweet date paste.
Congratulations to QJD Peking Duck Restaurant on their official Grand Opening!
