The pre-Christmas rush may have passed, but Pearson Airport in Mississauga remains almost as busy this week with more than 140,000 travellers passing through the terminals each day.
While upwards of 150,000 people were moving through Pearson’s gates daily in the week leading up to Dec. 25, this week’s numbers aren’t that far off, airport officials said in a post to social media on Wednesday.
“Passengers are flowing smoothly through the terminals, but we are still expecting over 140,000 passengers per day for the rest of this holiday travel week,” Pearson Airport officials said in a post to X.
Officials offered some travel tips earlier they say should make it easier for people to make their way through Canada’s biggest and busiest airport during such busy times.
Pearson is again ready to meet the challenge of busy days, officials say, in addition to an anticipated busy winter, which they note could see a record number of Pearson travellers make their way through terminal gates.
They said earlier that they’ve increased staffing levels, added more snow removal equipment, placed more volunteers throughout the airport to assist passengers and added “greater system resiliency to our baggage system” as they deal with the large crowds.
As always, and particularly during busy times, Pearson officials urge travellers to plan ahead by checking weather forecasts ahead of any flight and to be prepared in case plans are changed.
