The discovery of a stolen car in Hamilton has led to charges for a 14-year-old boy.
Hamilton Police officers were in Gage Park looking into a separate case on Nov. 16. While in the area, they noticed a suspicious car. They walked up to the vehicle to learn more and an occupant got out of the car and ran away.
The officers chased him down and arrested him a short distance away. Once they learned who he was, they found he was in breach of three court orders.
The boy cannot be publically identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He’s charged with three counts of breaching a court order and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
“Vehicle thefts are an ongoing problem in the Hamilton area and the Hamilton Police Service is reminding the public to be mindful when leaving your vehicle for extended periods of time,” investigators wrote. To minimize risk of theft, police advise drivers to:
- Always lock your vehicle doors and keep your keys in a safe place
