13-year-old has died in hospital after being hit by a car in Ajax, Ontario

A 13-year-old girl struck by a car while attempting to cross the road at a marked crosswalk in Ajax Thursday morning has died.
The girl was attempting to cross Rossland Road at Stevensgate Drive when she was hit by an SUV and trapped underneath. She was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries
She has since succumbed to her injuries.
Durham Police responded to the call just after 7:30 Thursday morning and found the teenager pinned under the vehicle and suffering from extensive injuries. She was extricated and treated by paramedics before being transported via Air Ornge to a Toronto trauma centre.
The investigation determined that a black Hyundai Sante Fe was southbound on Stevensgate Drive approaching Rossland Road West when it struck the cyclist attempting to cross at a marked crosswalk. The driver of the Hyundai remained on the scene.
