Mississauga chef, social media star and entrepreneur Wallace Wong is one of three acts from the city competing in Canada's Got Talent.

Some talented performers from Mississauga are headed to the big stage — and prime time TV — to show the entire country what they have to offer.

The three Mississauga acts are among 116 entries from coast to coast across Canada looking to capture the crown and a most-ever $1 million top prize in the latest installment of the hit television show Canada’s Got Talent, which begins airing March 19 from 8 to 10 p.m. on Citytv.

Creators of the on-air talent competition say the $1 million first prize is “the biggest cash prize in Canadian television history.” Last year’s Canada’s Got Talent winner received $150,000.

Show producers add the “million-dollar season is upping the ante with wild and weird acts, world record-breaking stunts and several contestants who are pursuing their dreams abroad, but now coming home to compete on the Canadian stage.”

Celebrity judges for the upcoming season are once again Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Trish Stratus and Kardinal Offishall.

Sanskriti Arts, an Indian dance group in Mississauga comprised of girls and women ages nine to 44, is one of the trio of Mississauga participants and 60 Ontario acts taking part in the Canada-wide talent show.

Mississauga’s Soon Keun Kwon, 82, will compete in the singer/musician category. Originally from South Korea, the longtime drummer (since 1950) came to Canada in 1976 and offers a flamboyant style of drumming.

Show producers said online, “though he is well into retirement age, Soon is hoping to rock out with Canada on the CGT stage.”

The final Mississauga competitor, Wallace Wong, will compete in the novelty category and is expected to “turn the culinary arts into an extreme sport on the CGT stage,” show creators said.

Wong, described as a chef, social media star and entrepreneur, also earned a Guinness World Record last year.

He’s also known as the SixPackChef (Wong is a competitive bodybuilder, too) on TikTok.

Wong grew up in the Mavis Road and Eglinton Avenue area of Mississauga and attended St. Francis Xavier Secondary School.

The latest Canada’s Got Talent season will conclude with a live, two-hour finale on May 14 at 8 p.m. at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls.

The champion will win $1 million and the opportunity to work with a financial advisor to help realize their financial dreams, producers of the show say.
