chilly with sunshine today in southern Ontario

Today will be sunny, but don’t be fooled—it’s still slightly cold out there. As winter clings on, remember to layer up against the chill even as the sun’s deceptive glow tempts you with its brightness.

Following Friday’s blizzard and a laborious Saturday of clearing snow and battling winds, southern Ontario welcomes a soothing shift.

The return of warmer weather and sunshine today will hopefully ease the post-storm recovery, perhaps finally bringing the spring season we have all been waiting for!

Residents will wake up to sunny skies, though it will be bitterly cold with morning wind chills dipping to -15 C.

As the day moves forward, temperatures will gently climb in Mississauga, Brampton, and Halton reaching a high of plus 1 C. Durham is forecasted to be slightly warmer at 2 C, whereas Hamilton will see 0 C temperatures.  Wind speeds are also expected to rise to a brisk 15 km/h.

Towards the evening, the sunshine will fade, with cloudiness sweeping across the skies. Wind speeds will once again speed up to 15 km/h and may carry on through the night. Temperatures are set to drop sharply overnight, reaching -9 C in Mississauga, Brampton, and Halton, while Hamilton will get temperatures of  -8 C. The Durham region will see an even steeper fall to -11 C.

Environment Canada predicts the week ahead will bring warm days and cold nights with a mix of sunny and rainy weather. As the Easter long weekend approaches, residents can expect temperatures to peak near 11 C with lows close to -2 C.
