Two people have been charged and a third is being hunted by police on a Canada-wide first-degree murder warrant in the March shooting death of a man who was gunned down in a parking lot in Mississauga’s east end.

Homicide detectives with Peel Regional Police made two arrests on April 16 and are now seeking Akeem Richards, 27, in connection with the March 21 murder of Alastair Robinson, 37, of Toronto.

Robinson and an 18-year-old Whitby man were in the parking lot of “an event space” near Dixie Road and The Queensway at about 2:30 a.m. when they were shot at from a passing vehicle, according to police.

Robinson was struck by a bullet and died at the scene while the younger man he was with suffered injuries not considered life threatening.

Richards, meanwhile, is wanted for first-degree murder and attempted murder. Police said he’s considered to be armed and dangerous.

Richards is described as Black, standing about 6-foot-2 and weighing 220 pounds with black braided hair.

Anyone who spots him should call 9-1-1 immediately, police said, adding he is not to be approached.

In mid-April, police arrested two people in connection with the murder.

Shawn Downey-Smith, 30, of Brampton, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and nine firearm possession offences including three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a court-ordered prohibition.

Britney Graca, 24, of Guelph, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and six firearm possession offences.

Both have made first appearances in Brampton court.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

The March 21 shooting was the third such incident in recent years at or near the plaza located at Dixie Road and The Queensway.

The plaza is home to several businesses and services including dental and medical offices, a gym and a restaurant.

Two men were seriously injured in a shooting in a parking lot on The Queensway East, between Stanfield and Dixie roads, on July 14, 2019, according to news reports.

And more recently, four people were shot at the same plaza and sent to hospital with serious injuries on Canada Day last year.
