An 18-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with stunt driving and dangerous driving after a multi-vehicle crash that included a head-on collision in the city’s north end sent five people to hospital.

Major Collision Bureau investigators with Peel Regional Police arrested and charged the man on Tuesday in connection with the March 28 three-vehicle crash on Derry Road, near Argentia Road, in Meadowvale.

Police said in a news release issued Wednesday a Honda SUV was travelling “at a very high rate of speed” eastbound on Derry Road approaching Argentia Road at about 8 p.m. when it rear-ended another eastbound vehicle.

“The SUV subsequently mounted the centre median and struck a second vehicle, travelling westbound on Derry Road, causing a head-on collision,” police said.

Both the driver and passenger of the SUV were rushed to a trauma centre with what were life-threatening injuries at the time, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended was hospitalized with minor injuries while the driver and passenger of the third car involved were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Andrew Al Dbai, 18, of Mississauga, is charged with:

  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm (three counts)
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • drive motor vehicle, perform stunt by speeding

He was held for a bail hearing. Police added he was charged previously with speed-related offences as well.

Anyone with information or video of the incident is urged to call investigators at 905-453–2121, ext. 3710, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
