911 call

Police are looking for a person or people who made over 1,000 calls to 911 from an Ontario town.

The incident started on Monday (April 22) when the Norfolk County OPP Detachment responded to a 911 hangup call on James Street in Delhi, a small community in southwestern Ontario.

The call came in around 12:15 a.m., OPP said.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the caller and officers didn’t see an emergency situation.

Then, between 12:15 a.m. and 9:05 a.m., there were approximately 1,150 similar 911 calls, OPP said.

No emergency situations were reported or observed in connection with these calls, police added.

False or misleading 911 calls can lead to charges of public mischief.

These calls divert valuable resources and time away from genuine emergencies, potentially endangering lives, police said.

The resources expended on responding to false calls could instead be utilized to assist individuals facing real emergencies, highlighting the importance of using 911 responsibly.

The OPP is actively investigating this incident and is appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122.
