Brampton fire fighters bravery medal

A trio of firefighters from Brampton and Caledon are being heralded as heroes after pulling passengers from the wreckage of a fiery crash.

The rescue happened back in April of 2023 after two cars crashed on Highway 10 in Caledon,

That’s when off-duty firefighters Jeff Clayton and Jeff Fairbarn jumped into action and pulled the driver from the first car just moments before it became fully engulfed in flames, the province said in a release.

Clayton is a captain with Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, while Fairbarn was a captain with Caledon Fire and Emergency Services at the time of the crash but has since been promoted to deputy fire chief.

Moving to the second car, the two men worked with fellow CFES firefighter Brandon DiMonte to free the trapped driver as the flames grew, pulling both victims from the blazing wreck.

Their quick thinking and rescue efforts have led the province to award the trio the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery, which honours firefighters “who have gone above and beyond to protect and serve their communities.”

The OPP responded to a “serious” crash on Highway 10 that same day where the driver of one vehicle was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance. The province has not confirmed whether the two incidents were connected.
