Police investigate dog shooting in York

According to an official report from York Regional Police, law enforcement officials are looking for two suspects concerning a weapon incident that saw a dog get shot in the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

The incident occurred last week on Friday, June 14, around 10 pm — and according to police officials — officers were then called to a residential location near McCowan Rd and Bloomington Rd regarding a weapon discharge.

Upon arriving at the residence, officers were allegedly informed by the resident that upon arriving at his home that night, his two dogs bolted from his vehicle and ran alongside his garage — seemingly barking at something.

It was at this point that the homeowner heard a single gunshot and witnessed two male suspects in dark clothing fleeing from the scene. Upon arriving at the location of the gunshot, the resident allegedly saw that one of his dogs had suffered a bullet wound.

According to York Regional Police representatives, a Police Canine Unit then arrived at the scene and immediately applied first-aid to the wounded dog. Law enforcement authorities allege that the dog was then taken to the local animal hospital where it was treated and kept in stable condition.

York Regional authorities claim the Canine Unit then attempted to track these fleeing suspects but it was assumed they escaped with a vehicle.
