Earlier today (July 5) it was announced that Pearson International Airport in Mississauga will be running a series of fire drills in select locations throughout the facility.

According to an official release, this training session is executed with the Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute (FESTI). This organization is also part of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority’s (GTAA) fire department — the GTAA also conducts operations for all of Pearson International.

As a result of these drills, plumes of smoke will be visible in certain areas throughout Pearson, however, representatives within the facility urge travellers not to panic, as these live burns are done in a controlled environment.

In a post to X (formerly Twitter), Pearson representatives indicated that these drills would be taking place for the duration of the day.

Pearson has been known to have a variety of fire training sessions take place throughout the facility, such as last year’s facility-wide emergency exercise, which saw numerous members of Pearson International’s staff simulating a fire evacuation within a terminal.
