A pair of high-rise apartment towers could be coming to Brampton, bringing more than 1,600 units to downtown across from one of the city’s busiest transit hubs.

The project would be two towers standing 55 and 58 stories tall on top of a shared 13-storey podium building on Railway Street in Brampton.

Plans for the mixed-use development include 1,628 residential units with a mic of studio, one-bedroom and 2-bedroom units and 405 square-metres of retail and shopping space.

An application has been filed that encompasses nearly a dozen parcels in the downtown area including some heritage properties dating back to the late 19th century, and an assessment found that developers will need to “mitigate any impacts to the adjacent heritage resources and to the surrounding neighbourhood” if the plan is approved.

The buildings would be in Brampton’s Innovation District across from the GO Station with access to the Kitchener Line GO Train and connecting to Union Station in Toronto, as well as Brampton Transit and Zum routes.

A previous application for the site was filed last year for three towers with heights of 50, 52 and 54 storeys, along with a trio of three-storey-tall podium buildings with retail and amenity space.

The downtown Innovation District is seeing more interest from developers including plans for a 39-storey apartment tower adding over 500 new units to the city’s housing stock.
