Students with an eye for science, engineering and art can get hands-on experience at the newest tech hub now open in Brampton.

The new Collaborative Learning and Technology Centre (CLTC) opened on Monday across from Brampton’s Central Peel Secondary School.

The state-of-the-art facility is a joint project from the Peel District School Board and City of Brampton and offers Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) programs and boasts innovative amenities for students and the community to use.

The centre was designed with up-to-date technology that supports learning, leading to careers in STEAM fields and features a modern design coupled with cutting-edge technology to “inspire the next generation of innovators.”

“With a focus on real-world applications and hands-on experiences, we’re paving the way for brighter futures and diverse career paths in STEAM fields,” the city and PDSB said in a release.

Some courses are already available for sign-up, including an entry-level Computer Programming with Python program, an Animation and Video Game Design course, and a Stop Motion Animation program.

“The centre is a space for creativity and discovery, and it’s also a gateway where students can explore ideas and technologies that will shape tomorrow. Through our collaboration with the City of Brampton, we’re providing the tools and conditions students need to thrive,” said Rashmi Swarup, Director of Education with the PDSB.

STEAM programs and sign-ups are handled by the City of Brampton’s Recreation department, just like registering for summer camps and sports leagues.

Registration is open now, with a list of programs available on the city’s website.

The new CLTC is the third partnership project between the City of Brampton and PDSB following the Sandalwood Heights Secondary School Track revitalization and Turner Fenton Cricket Pitch construction.
