Ontario Niagara Falls police replica guns arrested

A 39-year-old Thorold man has been arrested in connection with an assault with a weapon and multiple other weapon charges.

Niagara Regional Police responded to an assault call in the area of Pine Street North and Albert Street West around 9:50 a.m. on Sunday (June 23) in Thorold and allege a man struck another man with a pistol.

“(An) investigation revealed that a male and female were at this location when a male suspect walked up to the male victim and struck him in the head with a pistol (and) then threatened to do the same to the female,” said Niagara police.

Police were able to identify the man and after issuing a warrant on Monday discovered a shotgun, ammunition, and two soft handguns.

Jonathan V. Barry, 39, of Thorold was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of assault with a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Ammunition: careless storage
  • Firearm: tampering with a serial number
  • Firearm: use while committing offence
  • Firearm: unauthorized possession
  • Firearm: knowledge of unauthorized possession
  • Firearm: three counts of possession contrary to order
  • Disobeying court order

Berry was held in custody pending a bail hearing that was expected to take place Monday (June 24) at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
