Police are looking to reunite an urn full of human remains with its owner in an odd lost and found case in Ontario.

The intricate and decorative urn was found in January in St. Clair Township, approximately 122 kilometres west of London and near Ontario’s border with Michigan, the OPP says.

Police say someone found the urn in a river and called officers to hand over the somewhat macabre discovery. More than just a vessel, police say the urn is full of ashes and efforts to locate its owner have been unsuccessful.

Now, months after the discovery, the OPP is spreading the word about the urn and asking the public for help tracking down the owner “to return these remains back to their loved ones.”

The urn is blue with gold filigree and inlaid with what appear to be dolphins. Police say the only identifying marking on the urn is a tag which reads “Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Ohio.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the urn to contact officers by calling the Lambton OPP at 519-882-1011 or 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
