Illegal handgun and drugs seized in Brampton traffic stop

What started as a traffic stop ended with drug, gun and impaired driving charges for a young man from Brampton.

Peel Regional Police say the arrest happened on Friday when officers with the Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing squad pulled over a vehicle in the area of Kennedy Road and Clarence Street in Brampton.

While searching the vehicle police say they found a loaded Taurus G2 9mm handgun with a serial number that had been allegedly tampered with, along with an extended magazine.

Investigators also turned up undisclosed quantities of fentanyl, cocaine and cannabis as well as an open container of liquor.

Police say a 21-year-old man from Brampton was arrested and charged with multiple offences.

Peel Regional Police say Dy’Quan Young, 21, of Brampton has been charged with offences including knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, and tampering with serial number of firearm.

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
