Seven Brampton residents are among 20 people facing some 300 gun and drug trafficking charges in the wake of a year-long police investigation that led to the recovery of $2.5 million in drugs and nearly $250,000 in cash.

The 14-month-long joint-forces operation led by York Regional Police also saw officers seize 18 illegal firearms in what police say was a sting that targeted a “large-scale gun and drug trafficking network” operating in York.

The massive probe, which was dubbed Operation Lookout and also involved Peel Regional Police, Toronto Police and OPP, began in April 2023 when officers began investigating members and associates of a street gang known as the Haywan Gang.

“The gang was believed to be involved in the trafficking of firearms and drugs into the southern part of York Region,” police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Investigators allege members and associates of the gang were supplied by others with “firearms and high-quality cocaine” that were then primarily trafficked in Vaughan.

The police operation wrapped up with the execution on June 5 of 33 search warrants across the GTA.

In addition to the arrests, police recovered 18 guns, 19.8 kilos of cocaine, 4.8 kilos of cannabis and amounts of MDMA, Xanax pills and oxycodone pills. Combined, the drugs are worth $2.5 million on the street, police said.

Investigators also seized $244,335 in Canadian currency, four vehicles and luxury watches valued at $255,000 as proceeds of crime.
