Summertime is here and there is a new place in town to cool things down.

Nani’s Gelato, which is slowly making appearances across the GTA, has arrived in Burlington.

While providing a wide array of dessert options, it’s the gelato that Nani’s is famous for.

Founder Parry Sohi of Thunder Bay says he was always fascinated with tasty treats and he was determined to make it happen.

Coming from a family business background that made desserts and ice cream and following his dream, Sohi headed to the University of Wisconsin where he enrolled in a specialized program that focused on ice cream manufacturing. From there, Sohi went on to train alongside a U.S.-based Italian artisanal gelato maker before his return to Canada.

In 2019 and now located in Toronto, Sohi converted an old truck and turned it into a travelling gelato jalopy, serving showing up at events in and around the city. Within a year he had his first brick-and-mortar shop and it has grown from there with stores now located in Toronto, Mississauga and Milton. The newly-opened Burlington location is at 2485 Appleby Line.

Offering a variety of desserts, Nani’s prides itself on preparing all products onsite every day which the store operators believe ensures freshness and a dynamic rotation of flavours that lives up to its name: Nani means grandmother in several South Asian languages.

“In every batch of gelato that we produce, we infuse the love and passion of our mothers and grandmothers,” a note on the company website says. “An unprecedented way of cooking, our founder’s inspiration for Nani’s Gelato comes from how his mother and grandmother produced meals daily from fresh ingredients. We never compromise on the quality of our gelato and handcraft every batch in-house daily. Our flavours are Asian, Indian and Italian influenced and we ensure every batch we produce has a Nani’s touch.”

Because batches are made daily, Nani’s Gelato changes flavours often. What’s available today may not be there tomorrow or next week.

Flavours listed on Nani’s Gelato Instagram have shown such variety as mango banana sorbet, vegan cereal milk, tiramisu, spice parle G, Belgian cookie, salted dark chocolate and pistachio cannoli. Customers can stay updated on available flavours by following on Instagram, where menus are posted every two weeks,

Keeping dietary needs in mind, Nani’s Gelato lets customers know which of their concoctions are vegan, or whether they contain gluten, nuts or eggs.
