A famous bakery that closed last month has reopened with a new concept in Mississauga.

Carlo’s Bakery in Port Credit closed for renovations in March.

The closure sparked concern on social media with many residents worried it had closed for good. A sign at the bakery suggested a pizza restaurant was opening in the location.

The New Jersey-based bakery opened with great fanfare in January 2022 at 167 Lakeshore Rd. W. in Port Credit. It was the first location in Canada.

The bakery is known for its rainbow (and chocolate fudge rainbow) cakes as well as carrot, cookies ‘n’ cream, red velvet, black and white, vanilla confetti and chocolate fudge flavours.

Those concerned that a pizza restaurant would replace the bakery were partly right.

Carlo’s Bakery has reopened with a whole new restaurant concept inside.

“We’re thrilled to announce our reopening, following a brief hiatus to revamp our menu offerings. Listening to our wonderful community, we’ve expanded beyond our beloved bakery treats to include an array of lunch and dinner options,” reads an announcement on the Carlo’s Port Credit website.

“Introducing Lago Pizza & Pasta, a collaboration with local Mississauga Chef, Lino Dicecca.”

Carlo’s classics are still available including cake, cannoli and lobster tails.

But there will also be a full-service restaurant serving appetizers, salads, pizza and pasta. Sandwiches, salads, gelato and coffee are also available to grab and go.

The Port Credit store has reopened with hours from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
