For the second time this month, a Burlington animal hospital has been targeted by thieves looking for drugs.

The most recent case took place late on March 24 when someone broke into Bayview Park Animal Hospital on Brant Street and left with an undisclosed amount of narcotics.

On March 16, again late at night, the Orchard Animal Hospital on Appleby Line was the target of the break-in with the culprit making off with the drugs used to treat cats and dogs.

In both cases, the suspect possibly used a crowbar to bust through a locked door.

Police across North America have said increasingly veterinary hospitals are being burglarized by drug users or dealers looking to get their hands on anything they can grab.

The drugs that are stolen are meant to treat illnesses, relieve pain or in some cases used for euthanizing pets.

Both health and police officials warn that if ingested or improperly used these narcotics can prove to be fatal.

In both Burlington cases, the description of the suspect has been similar. He is a man with average height and a heavy build and wearing a sweater or a hoodie. In one instance the getaway vehicle was an SUV.

In each case, the buildings were unoccupied at the time of the break-ins and damage was contained to the broken doors.
