A Mississauga resident is among three people facing charges after two dogs were found locked inside a parked vehicle in the cottage country community of Grand Bend, Ontario on Sunday.

Lambton OPP said officers who were called to the scene just after 6 p.m. near Huron Street were quickly directed to a locked car with the pair of dogs inside.

“Officers were informed that the dogs had been in the vehicle for a period of time and appeared to be in some distress,” OPP said in a news release issued Monday.

Police officers got into the vehicle and removed the dogs. They took the animals back to the police station, where they were cared for by officers until the owners were contacted.

A 31-year-old resident of Mississauga, a 26-year-old resident of Scarborough and a 30-year-old from Gloucester, near Ottawa, are charged with two counts each of cause damage or injury to an animal (fail to provide suitable food, water, care, shelter).

All three have been released and will appear in Sarnia court on Aug. 12.

Grand Bend is located on the south shore of Lake Huron, about 70 kilometres northwest of London
